The nitriding does a LOT more than just harden the surface. It also toughens 
the hell out of the skin of the crank, making it FAR harder fro cracks to 
start and propagate.

Got a couple, no ampersand symbol on the crank.    I wouldn't sweat it...  

Either way, a 140 can use any late crank and be just fine with it.  The
nitriding won't substantially increase the cranks strength at all; more for
keeping the crank from getting scratched by garbage in the oil.   Keep the
oil changed and you need not worry about not having a hardened crank.
