<VV> heads up

I have the headliner out of the car. I want to clean up the roof area a bit,
as there is a little rust there, so I am going to spray it with Rust Checks.
There is a cardboard liner glued (sort of) to the roof interior now. If I peel
this off, what can I replace it with? What about that closed cell foam like
they use around a house foundation? Is this just for sound damping or is it a
moisture barrier as well?

Spring isn't that far away.
