And did anybody ever check that line to the tank to make sure they could
actually pull fuel through it?    Incidentally, I recall that the pump
wouldn't  pull fuel from the can either.    There could still be two
problems working here...  flaky pump (resolved) and a flaky pathway (not
resolved) between the fuel in the tank and pump.    ...lots of things
between the sock and the pump to cause trouble.   


In the meantime it's first things first, and working towards getting the
engine to start and run from the hose to the gas can.  Then the fuel line
and tank issues can be addressed,
