<VV> GTO-no Corvair

I am going to E-Bay a nice 1966 GTO hardtop for a friend of mine.  I recall
that 1966 is the first year that you can verify a true GTO by the VIN number
but do not recall which character or letter indicates a true GTO.  Can
anyone in 'vairland help me decode the VIN (ie if the 5th character is an
"R" this is a real GTO)?  I know it is a real GTO because I checked it out
when he bought it but that was several years ago and I can't find my
Ponitiac book that shows the info I want.  I simply want to be able to point
out in the description of the car that this is a real GTO and why.
