The Buick drums are for the rear of the 5 bolt LM.
I also read/post over on Corvair Central and there is a guy working on
modifying finned alum Datsun brake drums which are the same size & bolt
pattern as the EM drums. I haven't seen an update from him in a while.
For normal driving go with stock drums and a set of Kevlar or semi
metallic brake shoes. You'll have all the stopping power you will ever
need at a lot less cost than alum drums.
The alum drums would be more for racing applications where unsprung
weight and extreme need for heat dissipation are needed.
Your 64 drums should already be finned for heat dissipation and the lip
should be factory machined to fit your backing plate to keep out water.
Changing this set-up may not be better overall, but getting better brake
shoes will make a world of difference.

Subject: <VV> aluminum drums
Hi all: shortly i will fininish the carb rebuild on my 64. once running
i' m
sure i'll need to rebuild the brakes. I read somewhere a running
dialouge
about using aluminum drums from early buicks etc. i don't remember the
projected benifits. can anyone advise? Assum better heat disapation and
lighter weight seem logical. If so has anyone explored or installed tr-6
aluminum drums/brakes? Seems worth exploring as they are 9" with 4x4.5
bolt
pattern.
