I too acquired a long out-of-service 1966 Corvair a few years back.  It 
required a thorough going-over of all the mechanical and safety components 
before it could be driven.

Given the geography in this situation, I recommend that you contact the 
Corvair Ranch in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  They have the equipment 
necessary to GO GET the car, and they have the experience and knowledge to 
put it into roadworthy shape for you.
