While cleaning parts in anticipation of re-installing my rebuilt heads this
weekend, I noticed that 2 of the pushrods were brand new. I looked through
the paperwork given to me by the original owner and noticed that he had a
receipt from a garage for replacing the 2 rods in the #4 cylinder.
My questions are:
1. What could have happened to have required replacing the push rods?
Unless he lost some receipts, there was no record of anyone working on that
head previously. He was a doctor and just paid others to work on his old
cars, so I'm sure he didn't adjust the valves.
2. What other things should I look at that might have been damaged from
this, before I re-install the heads - Rocker arms, lifters ??
Before I removed the heads, the compression on this bank of cylinders were
all good. It was the other side that had the dropped valve seats, so maybe
I don't have anything to worry about, but I'd like to make sure first.
