My nephew is going to store his car for up to a year (in an unheated garage,
I think). Any recommendations as to what he should do to it to ensure it
comes out of storage most easily?

Andy / Danny, one year is not LONG! Fill the gas tank, add
stabilizer. Then put the car on jackstands [ incase a tire goes flat]
And if you are still worried.....disable the ignition.....spray preservative
oil down the carbs while cranking!
