<VV> Braking Question

A friend in my local club, with a newly-acquired 1961 Corvair, asks:

"What would make front brakes on the 61 Monza pull left one time and right
the next time when you apply the brakes?  If I apply the brakes slowly so
the fluid has a chance to develop equal pressure it stops straight.  But if
I just hit the brakes it jerks to one side or the other."

I have some ideas, but I would like to hear from listmembers, too.
