One caution on blue dots: ONLY purchase real glass blue dots if
you actually want to give your tail lights that old-timey "purple
glow". There are cheap plastic repros available today that simply
do not do the job. ONLY glass will do.

If you are doing the job yourself, the hole in the lens can be
started with ordinary drill bits - like many holes with an 1/8 inch
bit - but beware of older lenses that are dry and brittle as they
are going to want to crack and chip. Absolutely ideally you would
want to used drill bits intended for drilling plastic which have a
different "lead" on the tip of the bit. If you have a hobby or
industrial plastics store around you they might have these bits.
Buying a plastic bit is cheaper than replacing a lens you have
cracked. A dremel with a grinding wheel is good for polishing out
the hole to the size of the chromed retaining rigng for the blue
dot.

Also, use some clear silicone when installing the blue dot so that
you have sealed the lens surface again or you will be getting water
into your lamp housing.

How did you guess I just installed a set
