I have had the same Clark's "Slotted - Grooved" number C6488 belt on my
'vair for at least 5 years and over 2,000 miles.  It is grooved on the
inside of the belt, the narrow side, with the grooves running across the
width.  It looks kind of like this:

Seems to work very well.  Of course, one never knows what is in store...
Just to be sure, I carry at least two extra belts with me, plus a toolkit.
