<VV> oil leaks

The hole in the top of the crankcase cover for the road-draft/PCV tube
points to the RIGHT side of the engine. If there is leakage from this
circuit, it would drip down the RIGHT side of the engine. First step in
investigation: remove lower right shroud. Once this is done, that threaded
hole (ALL Corvair engines have this) in the oil circuit that accommodated
the oil-pressure sender on 1960-61 engines can be inspected and ruled out as
the source of the leakage. Once that is done, you can search on upwards to
see if the oil is coming down off the top of the engine. The right side is
the side it would be coming down on.

The sending unit in question that could leak oil is the pressure snap
switch beside the fuel pump atop the engine. Not likely to be your problem
in this instance. You say it's on the right side of the engine...? Only
the earlier (60-61) Vair engines had a pressure snapswitch sending unit on
the side of the crankcase, which did on occasion leak, been there done
that, but in your case (no pun) the sending unit should be on top beside
the fuel pump.

Not much else is there on the right hand side to leak oil, outside of tube
seals or valve cover gasket... it might be a leak in the crankcase top
cover gasket, dripping oil down the side of the crankcase. Or, in extreme
cases, there may be a crack in a casting somewhere.

The next thing to do is clean up everything thoroughly, and then start the
engine again and check closely for oil leaks to determine just where the
oil is coming from.
