Thanks for all the input two weeks ago here is the report:
1964 Greenbrier w / PG 110 car engine;
These past two weeks Ted Fahrenthold and I have worked on my GB (Burnie
Weedles). When I
bought it from Burnie's family (February 2003) it needed quite a few things
but I basically just got it running and
enjoyed it for a year. Now We have pulled and resealed the drivetrain,
replaced the right rear axle assembley,
sandblasted and painted all the engine shrouding, rebuilt the right carb,
and tuned the engine. We
installed a new (my son's used one) sound system, fixed the turn signal cam
and dropped the
gas tank to replace the PG shifter cable and front emergency brake cable.
While the tank was out I inspected
the sender unit, installed a new intake sock and replaced the sender
retainer O-ring. We also installed a new
electric fuel pump (very nice Corvair application model from AutoZone, $38
) which is MUCH quieter than the
old one. I had already redone the exhaust system with u-tubes and a set of
Thrush resonators but they were WAY
too loud. Now it has a Clark's brand new ( 2004 supplement ) FC dual
exhaust set installed and I will be able to hear
the tunes from the "new" sound system. A cutoff switch for the new electric
fuel pump has been reactivated ( I don't know why
Burnie had it disabled ) and the back-up lights will soon be operational as
we are tracing a dead ground in
their wiring. The new PG cable from Clarks is going to require a resetting
of the PG shift valve but that will
soon be solved with the purchase of a "J" tool from Clarks. A few more
hours of tweaking and it will finally
become a Chuckster style rig.

Followup:
Several individuals asked questions about the fuel pump and the New
Clark's FC dual
exhaust set-up. The new pump is very quiet and was easily mounted behind
the gas
tank on the crossmember. It was purchased at Auto Zone and has a Corvair
specific
designation. It is a "Master" and the part number is "E80125".
I am very pleased with the dual exhaust sysytem. It comes with
everything needed
to install and includes graphite doughnuts and custom rear muffler hangers and
chrome exhaust tips. The sound is mellow and I would compare it to a
factory original
140 or just a tad louder but not as loud as dual turbos. The application is
neat and the
mufflers nestle nicely and don't hang down too far. I will have pictures
available in jpeg
format if you want them on an individual basis. The rear air grill is left
off on purpose so
you can better see the clearance and alignment. I still think I will
remount the hangers
so they float with the engine. Clarks has you mounting them to the rear
frame rail.
There were a few other glitches that were minor but overcome without
major problems.
The speedometer functions much better if you connect both ends of the
cable. This is
much easier if you do it in one application. When you reconnect fuel lines
it is better to
snug the 1" Carb top nuts before you tighten the fuel lines, Duh ! Look
very carefully in your
tool box or tool draws BEFORE you order the 2nd "J" tool for the detent
adjustment in your
PG tranny. Finally when you are draining the fluid out of the tranny, make
sure the drain pan is
wide enough to catch the fluid from the fill tube side AND the drain plug
side. <GGG> da Brier
is running sweet, sounding mellow and the new tune machine is putting out
good vibes.
