Smitty says: Naw Ron, It's been a long hard winter and you have been away
from your Corvair too long.  If it's an Early the reg is mounted to  tab
hanging down from a flange in the forward part of the engine compartment
(unless it's a 60).  If it's a Late the reg is fastened to the web
between the air plenium and the engine compartment.  Neither are attached
directly to the firewall.  Don't bother apologizing for questioning me.
