Recently there have been quite a few posts about the CORSA Board, it's
members and their perceived responsibilities. Since my opinion has been
involved in more than one of these posts, I think maybe I should share what
I believe makes a good Director. When one represents an International
automotive
club it is just that, you represent that membership throughout the world.
It doesn't
matter that you were elected by a very small fraction of a division's vote
but how
you represent our total membership.
Your title bears a responsibility to act as a Statesman, not a
politician, when you
are promoting the Corvair marque and the goals of CORSA. The title of Director
automatically , right or wrong, gives your opinions, actions and deeds a
measure
of recognition. This is an altruistic view but it happens whether you want
it or not.
CORSA constantly stresses the need for new members and recruitment.
Directors,
local Club officers, and the Communique are quite often the first contact a
prospective
member may encounter. But, in addition we now have great exposure to non-CORSA
members on the internet and within our websites which include the internet
chapter
Virtual Vairs and yes even Virtual Talk. Everywhere a Director or candidate
walks,
talks, writes or acts, it is noticed.
Of course I wish that all Directors in CORSA will represent the club
in the best
most positive light and will also be exceptional recruiters for CORSA. I
also hope
they will make decisions based on what is best for all of CORSA and even though
I don't have a vote in each region I sure want and expect the same goals
from each
Director that is elected. It is important that each declared candidate
understand his/her
responsibilities and represent all 5,300+ members of CORSA.
Thanks to all of you who have voluntered, served and run as CORSA
Directors.
East, Central or Midwest you represent and ultimately make decisions which
effect
our International Corvair club.
