I see in the Southwest catalog that lates and earlies are different from each
other. What's the difference?
Jeff,
The difference is the location of the front main seal. Because the cam drive
gear
on the crankshaft is different on earlies and lates, the late (including
64's) gear
and seal surface is thinner\shorter than earlies the seal must be placed in
closer
to the gear for good seal. You can identify earlies as they have two
concentric
circles cast into the area next to where the cam gear runs while lates are
smooth
in that area.
