I recently acquired a red 65 Convertible w/140 4spd from a guy that wanted
out of the business. It came with two engines, and a trailer full of mostly
junk - everthing is full of rust/mud/wasp nexts/spiders, etc. There's SOME
good stuff, just needs to be cleaned thoroughly.
On my way out, he hands me a bunch of "documentation", including all the
receipts he has (nothing special), and a stack of Corsa SC newletters dating
back to 1995. In a folder with the receipts is a March 1993 Corsa
Communique, with two articles I'd like to mention.
#1 is a note to Corsa, from Corsa SC, donating $200 to the Corvair
Preservation Fund, to be used on the Super Monza. Cool, I said to myself.
#2 of interest, was titled "Electric Auto Update". Recently, I've been
reading up on EVs. I've got a couple of good donor Honda CRXs I could use
to get started, but ultimately, I sure would like an EV Vair. Turns out,
PETER JACOBS, (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) was attempting this
already back in 1993, and already had a daily driver truck. He didn't have
a good donor at the time, and all the local donors suddenly dried up too, so
he converted an S-10. Trucks are popular conversions, due to space under
bed, around the rails, for batteries and access. A few of his specs are
Range of 50 miles, top speed of 75mph, weight of 3881, and silent except for
tire noise. By the time he got the truck on the road, he also had two good
Corvair donors.
I'm VERY curious how this went, and I thought some of you might be, too. If
any of our northern friends know of this guy, I'd love to get in touch.
Please forward my email to him.
If anyone else wants to join in on the topic, just let me know.
Thanks,
Barry Ellison
