Not to mention the earlier Chrysler/Simca venture. Simca, you may recall,
was the company that, at the time the Corvair was slated for introduction, was
marketing, through Chrysler dealerships in the U.S., an aging front engine/rear
drive model. Chrysler used Simca advertising as a surrogate to bash Corvair
in a round-about manner even before Corvair hit the market. The Simca ads
spoke of the safety and superiority of front engine/rear-wheel drive versus rear
engine. Interestingly, shortly thereafter, they marketed a boxy-looking
rear-engine car in the U.S. and abroad that resembled the boxy Renault 10.
