without hearing it i would want an oil gauge on it before running it at all.
i use an adaptabolt from clarks with a gauge right on it for diagnostic
checking and on any new engine i build. i run pressure with my drill on a distrib
shaft (take a junk distrib apart and you have the perfect drive tool)while
slowly turning crank by hand a turn or 2 then put the distrib back in and start it
watching the gauge untill its warmed up. i run engines on the bench all the
time, i have a starter with a chunk of broken differential case attached and a
small panel with a keyswitch and indicator lite for test running. i use an
outboard motor tank with squeeze bulb primer for a "safe" gas source. dont
leave a gauge on long time like this, if the belt breaks it makes a mess of the
gauge... regards , tim colson
