<VV> Newbie questions, part 2

I forgot to mention that the red fluid is not ATF -
the car is a 4 speed.

I have an engine knock today that was not there
yesterday.  Bad way to start a new car adventure. 
Will have to dig into it.  Any suggestions on
diagnosis?
