We've got an autocross tommorrow, that Corsa SC plans on attending in
Asheville NC. Belle Chere if anyone is interested. We've got at least 3
cars going up. Should be over 100 cars there, all types.

Tony and I feel there should be much more ummph in my 65 Corsa. Bottoms out
pretty early, no tach, but no power (guessing here) past 3000-3500. I got
smoked at the drags in Lexington, running a high 18 as my fastest time, just
in front of the Ultra Vans 23s <VBFrown> I know of only 1 LM car that was
slower than I was. Even that dang WTBRT just pulled away, pulling almost a
full second away, but always in upper range of rpms. (That was with Scott
driving, not da Chuckster, since we all know he can't drive anyhow.)

Engine history...

Maybe 10-12 tanks of gas on current engine.

New KB pistons, chromoly rings, .040 over (Thanks Underground) w/floating
wrist pins
lightened and balanced rods.
Really gutted the exhaust ports, milled the step almost away, and cc'ed the
comb. chambers, aiming for 9.1:1 CR - (still pings when hot, under load,
even on 92/93 octane, and timing advanced - timing at stock, it's hard to
make it happen)
Cam was used, otto-30
Crank, an original nitrided, specs within tolerance, new bearings
Aluminum oil pan
High vol oil pump
K&N Air cleaner in stock intake system
Vented carbs (turn cut-off fix), nothing major done to the carbs, no boring.
52 primary, 51 2nd's (was 49 2nds during drags)
Clarks ultimate Headers, WITH baffles.
Distributor mech advance weights are installed correctly. (checked just
last night - No ideas as to specs of springs) When the weights go out, the
rotor would turn MORE clockwise - as per Bob Helt's book.
Timing is set around 14-16, and both vac and mech advance working. We can
get more out of it, if we advance it for temporary autocross, but she pings
during daily driving.
Bosch platinum plugs, set at .040.
Still running points - set around 16-18.
Stock Coil
Stock pulley
Stock fan
Anything else I failed to mention is stock. (unless I remember diff after I
post this!)

(Numbers are vague, cause I just don't remember - sorry for
nonspecifics/exact measurements)

Tonight, I plan on taking the exhaust "mufflers" off, after the headers, and
see the diff. Definately removing the baffles. I've got a header leak,
aGAIN, so I have to go into it anyhow.

if that doesn't do it, I'm removing the intake system, and testing.

If THAT doesn't do it, I'm checking the cam lift, but at a later date.

Where's the limitation?

Any other ideas?

What else to test?

Can the baffles cause that much perf loss?

Best improvement to engine we're thinking is MSD, 6AL?

Thanks , and I'll try and post results of changes, as soon as I have some.
