<VV> Engine movement?

I have a '62 PG coupe in the shop with a late model 110 engine. There is 
about a 1.5 inch gap between the front shroud and the "firewall" as though the 
drivetrain has been moved to the rear of the car. The rear and front mounts 
appear to be okay. Any ideas as to what's going on or to look for (so that when I 
put it back in, it will be aligned)? Could it simply be a difference in the 
firewall shrouds from early to late?
