I'm new myself, but if I've been reading correctly, the '65 and '66 trans have different bolt patterns which would lead me to believe that you can't mix them. The '65 has 4 bolts and the '66 has 6 bolts. Maybe that's why you have a leak? I'm sure someone with more experience than me will add to this . . .

Hey Guys/Gals,
I'm in trouble. I am having problems with a diff (66) leaking at the seal
with the Tranny (65)...
Let me giove you some history....I have a 65 monza vert...It spun a
rearend bearing. I bout a 66 to put in it...I put them together using a gasket from
the 1980's...I torqued properly. LEAK...
Thinking I had an old gasket, I ordered 3 more....(good thing too)...I
took apart, cleaned mating surfaces, put the gasket on, applied gasket sealant,
and torqued....LEAK.....
Now, I'm upset..I looked at the seal and the only place it is leaking is
where the 65 tranny is a little lower than the mating surface of the 66 Diff...
As someone wrote in the Tech Supplement- the diff is the least explained
and least wrote about system in the whole powertrain.
I hope to hear from more than a few of you!! (hint-hint)
