I use RainX on my Corvair and other cars, and swear by it. There are TWO
maintenance aspects to it: (1) you DO have to maintain the film; if you
don't, well, it just wears off and isn't there anymore; and (2) ONE
application of it to a "virgin" windshield may not have full effect,
particularly if the windshield wasn't entirely clean on the first
application.
     Of course, using it, I have NO problems with snow, ice, etc (see
signature).

Maybe the key to rain x is the maintenance of the  film?
