Well, I was born 1963, and since 1983 in Karlsruhe, so we haven't met yet ;-)

Army is gone, Smiley-Barracks buildings are reused for civilians, but we still
have a Tennessee Av.  etc ... and a nice American Library.

Probably was the case in the seventies, meanwhile most stuff at junkyards
ends up melted or on the dump latest after a year or so, with all the high
tech cars, and the rigorous tech regulations, there is not much car tinkering
in Germany.
