Rather than flaming the Hemmings guy, one might ask "Why DIDN'T GM ever do 
anything to improve the Corvair fanbelt design?"  The three clouds over the 
Corvair are the notorious oil leaks, the flippin' belt, and Ralphie.  The Hemmings 
auction report on the '64 was pleasant and positive.  Why shoot the messenger 
when he questions GM?
