The Convention
After registration at Hyatt's Corsa desk, Tuesday by 7 PM, I went back to
the parking lot, got my car and went to look for my hotel which should be at
3-5 miles but, without a Lexington map, asked to a lady about the address. She
went into her car, got a map but the street I was looking for, was not there.
I got the hotel phone number but not the confidence to understand directions
by phone so, she phoned, got directions and said: follow me !, I obeyed and 10
minutes later we were at my hotel's parking lot. I felt a little embarrassed
but really gratefull with her, as her way showed me the Lexington's people
attitude to foreigneers... thanks Lexington !!
Next days were too short but full of impressions.... met many Corvair
people, went two or three times per day to the outdoors vending area (could
sound crazy but never have been at a toy store like that one), felt the lack
of some more eyes (two were not enough) at the magnificent car display,
enjoyed looking at the autocross, got lost two more times between my place and
Hyatt's (might be to meet more local people ?). On Thursday, morning, while
arriving to the parking lot, looked that the speedmeter have stopped,...
walked into Lon's "Lexington Branch", bought a new speedo cable and installed
it.... a small troubble solved on the right place at the right time.
On Thursday, at VVs meeting, while trying to save the images of all new
faces from well known names, at my turn to stand up and saying my name, I
received what it was and will be one of my most amazing Christmas gifts (on
June !!). Since there VVs is no more a group but a brotherhood !! Thanks to
all of you for that great welcoming.
On Saturday night, the best !! The well known raffle car's episode showed
a not well known (outside of the US) attitude or virtue of the US people. My
respects to Jeff Ballard and congratulations to all of you for having that
kind of people.
Thanks to Smitty, Chuck, Rick, Bill, Duane, Lonzo, the Youngs, Seth,
Terry, Frank and all others (can't remember all names) I met at Lexington
for being the way you are. Corvairs are the right cars for outstanding
people.
