All,
Just a reminder that four Corvair enthusiasts are going to be at the
Hershey Vintage Hillclimb this weekend May 1,2 in Hershey PA. Mark Gillispie ,
Michael LeVeque, Jeff Rapp, and myself.
The website is:www.SVVSCC.org. There are some very interesting pictures
there.
Hershey is just slightly east of Harrisburg.
We will be racing up the service road to the Hotel Hershey. The road is .7
miles with 5 turns and a fourth gear straight. This is like a fourth gear
autocross/Solo I with very sturdy green and brown pylons lining the way.
Mark and Michael will be driving Mark's YS037 vintage Yenko Stinger. It
has really been spiffed up with new paint and safety equipment. Mark has been
spiffed up with a new driver's suit with Gulf racing livery. NO one on earth
could be more excited than Mark!
I'm driving my 1964 Corvair roadster as an A/ Sports Racer ( USRRC and Can
Am) with permission from the organizer. He allows tube frame cars as long as
they are prepared and identifed as period correct. It's also important that
the driver have vintage racing history or they may run as a novice which is
actually the better case as you get more personal instruction. .I qualify, as I
ran in SCCA road racing in A/SR in the late 60's and early 70s with essentially
this very same chassis , engine, drivetrain, and wheelbase. It did have a GT
40 replica body on it though. The '64 Corvair body is WAY cooler.
We/re all staying at my and Michael's house thurs. night so that we can
get an early start on the 12-14 hour drive. Are we nuts???
See you there.
Warren
