<VV> 4 speed trans rebuild

I've rebuilt only 3 manual transmissions in my life, two of them Corvair. In
my opinion, the 1966 4-speed is pretty much like the others. Main difficulty
I experience: heavy snap rings. I consider compound snap-ring pliers to be
essential. This is NOT an exotic or expensive tool to acquire. There's one
in the K-D line, for example.
Follow the Shop Manual, whose directions are clear and ample. I can't
think of where/what you'd need a press for. Does the Shop Manual call for
one at any point? If you don't know, you should be reading the Shop Manual
now, before tackling the job, to get the answer to your question.
The needle bearings are just like a u-joint's. Use grease, be careful,
and don't lose any.

Is the 4-spd, (1966 ver.), a difficult transmission to rebuild?
I would like to attempt it but I dont want to end up with a "box job"
going to a shop. I have a press for the bearings, but am worried about
the needle bearings. Is it difficult to reassemble.
