Once, i salvaged the badly rusted track (in one piece
but holed and fragmented) plus what was left of the
channel liner. I reassembled with ordinary rtv
silicone sealer and the repair lasted at least 7 years
until the car left me.
I've dons similar about twice, with no problems.
Perhaps it can be done liner-lessly with say, folded
cardboard or plastic spacers and lots of silicone
sealer. Since the sealer is dry most of the time, it
should last "forever.'
Actually, fastening the glass to the rail isn't that
critical (spacing correctly of course). However,
window adjustment should be good enough that the
window drops down smoothly. It's hanging up on the way
down, that stresses the glass-channel attachment.
