it might make a noticeable difference. All you might realize from a long
secondary shoe is maybe a little more servo action from the extra area of
friction but this is offset by the reduced PSI because of the area. I
agree that the only reason for the shorter shoe in recent years was
pretty much trying to equalize the wear rate since the short shoe is only
a servo shoe. Most likely the reason for manufacturing them the same is
because the expense of that extra 1 1/2 inches of lining is less than
running production for two different types of shoes.
