Hey everyone,
I have decided to switch my Corvair drum brakes over to Datsun 240Z
aluminum drums. I heard this idea from Larry Forman, who said that It was a direct
swap. The only difference was about 2lbs a drum. I just wanted to know if
anybody on VV has performed the swap, and if there are any pitt falls to look out
for. Larry has never steered me wrong, and since we greased my rear wheel
bearings, and discovered all of my shoes are cracked; I figured this would be the
perfect time. Any help you could give would be would be...well...helpfull.
On a side note. A fellow Classic Corvairs of River City (Sacramento,CA)
member Mike Marratta and I went to the Drags last night. It was Mikes first
time drag racing, but not his last he says. We were slowest at the strip out of
250 cars, but probably got the most looks and questions. He drove his stock '64
110hp/PG with a best ET of 19.565 (thank goodness it was a bracket race.)
Thanks to excellent reaction times and a good dial in he won all 3 of his races.
It was a fun night; and we'll be back next month, maybe with a new to him
140hp with headers. -Kevin McClain
