<VV> leakdown test

Good thread. (Is it 14mm?) I don't have a leakdown tester but I have a good
substitute. My compression gauge is the type with an air fitting that fits
four different lower hoses for different spark-plug thread configurations. I
only use the "short" 14mm adapter, leaving the other three unused. One of the
other ones is also 14mm and also fits Corvairs. These adapters have one-way
valves that permit pressure to go towards the gauge only. I took the "extra"
14mm adapter and removed the one-way valve (it's really just a tire valve).
Now, I can hook-up shop air to the adapter and pressurize the cylinder. I just
used it this weekend to identify the reason for no compression on one cylinder
of my neighbor's Toyota. It took less than a minute to positively identify a
leaking exhaust valve. (the air came out the tailpipe). If the air had come
out the crankcase or throttle, that would have identified other failures)

As Martha says: "It's a good thing!"
