This is from Lon's wife Cheryl for Lon.She has asked Bob to post it to the
VV.
*********************************
Thanks so much for your kind words and wishes. Lon wanted me to write you
back and ask that you post these comments on the Virtual Vairs list since it
is a closed list and I have no access.
We saw the orthopedic surgeon today. They are trying to avoid having to do
surgery if they can; although it is a nasty break. They had to physically
manipulate his lower leg back in to some form of reasonable shape, much to
Lon's excruciating pain. They then casted it from his mid-thigh down. He
will see the Doctor again next Thursday--if it is maintaining its form, he may
be able to avoid surgery; however, they haven't ruled this out. The Doctor
said that he managed to break one of the larger bones in his body (Tibia) and
the healing process would be at least 4 months--and even at that, he wouldn't
be fully healed for a year or more.
We have a lot of decisions to make. He just started his job in January--I
don't know how accommodating they are willing to be or can be (sometimes it
isn't a matter of willingness). His job is 150 miles away--as many of you
know we were in the process of relocating. However, for insurance reasons, he
has to see the doctors here--so the logistics of seeing the doctors, and
physical therapy, etc also comes into play.
Even after all that, we are fortunate--it could have been a much nastier
fall--it could have been his head or spinal cord injured instead of just his
leg...
Hope you are all doing well, and thanks for the many warm wishes and prayers.
Blessings,
Cheryl Anderson for Lon
