Just to thank everyone for their suggestions -- diagnostics is hard --
harder long distance.

I flushed the old brake fluid, and started with fresh Dot 4.0.   From what I
could tell tonight, the brakes have roughly the same feel as my 68 Sprint.
feel is my senses -- purely subjective.

Need to find a place to test and tune (parking lot somewhere).

inspection of the brake lines, metal and rubber,  look good.  front is
relatively new. - with front disc conversion.  still considering braided
steel hoses -- as this is off-road vehicle.   if I go that route,  will
replace all the lines, and double check the master cylinder.
