It was pointed out that the lower control arm already carries that spring
load. Yes, but it carries that load spread over the large spring seat at
the top of the U-shaped arm, not a bolt loaded in double shear (two points).
If I was going to use the original lower shock mount as the load bearing
mount, I would reinforce the mounting points to try and spread out the load.
Another possibility would be to weld-in an additional support across the
arm and bolt the bottom of the shock down, like an early shock mount. So,
who has done this with a stock-derived lower control arm? -Seth
