I had a Toronado power Corvair called "Torvair". You are absolutely right that there is too much weight directly on the rear wheels. My car had 1900 on the rear and 700 on the front. Not a good mix for taking corners even at slow speeds. Was the car fast, yes but no exceeding so. I ran 14.0 @ 100 on a test run at a drag strip even with allow start and lifting near the end. The officials would not let me run again because they thought it is a high 12 second car and needed more safety equipment. Overall I would not buy or build one again. I am looking for a mid engine Vair to replace the Torvair which I sold in 2009 as soon as I sell my 1971 GTO.
The pictures of the car on Ebay are really poor and a lot of details are missing at best. IMHO, the car is worth maybe up to $10K depending on what needs to be done. To me a Crown or Kelmark is worth more.

Those, "Toranado" swaps look like an easier project, than fabricating the whole set-up, BUT , it's gotta be HEAVY . Maybe , ... if you put a adapter plate to the OLDS transaxle, and bolt up an L-88 it is worth it [I just don't see it]. Has anybody driven an OLDS powered [Tornado ] 'Vair , and a "Crown" ? I think there would be a big difference........
