Actually, I paid an machinest/engine builder to do the work (and he knew
what he wanted done, since he builds engines for hillclimb cars and sprint
cars). He did some work on the oil return galleys at the front and back of
the block, some risers in the middle valley, he has a certain kind of oil
pump he wants, and an oil pan with kickouts and baffles. He is very
particular about the clearance in the pan to the pump. He spent a lot of time on
the heads (local club requires vintage heads); machined for the larger
intake valves (stainless valves); I chose a comp cam (hydrualic lifter flat
tappet, I think it was a 284 XE), so he had to do spring seat work and
clearancing for inner springs; he has only one type of roller rockers he believes
will live. The cam's best power range is advertised as 2500 to 6800 rpms.
As per comp cams, it should put out just short of 400 hp, and around 385
lb-ft of torque.
The block had been bored, crank polished, new 10.5 to 1 hyperutectic
pistons, resized stock rods, all balanced (that was actually a local Criagslist
buy before it went to the mechanic).
The line for the engine running follows. I didn't make it clear
initially, but the video is after the cam has been broken in; actually by the time I
got out to the shop to take the video, the engine already had 4 hrs of run
time on it.
The valve covers are his (mine have just been ordered), and I have Jet Hot
coated headers instead of his rams head exhaust manifolds.

I haven't brought the engine home yet (still need to do a few things to the
car, like the headliner, while the engine is out).

What kind of things did you do?
