While I cant shine light on your questions I am in the same boat,
I have in route a ME chassis for my GT40 body,
In the pictures the "Kelmark" bell housing actually looks shorter than a
stock chevy bell housing to me,
I need to do the 4 spider thing and haven't heard how to do that, in fact
does anyone know of a source of built up vair gear boxes for those of use who
cant rebuild them?
Thanks
P.

Was there a reason the KM/ME driveshaft had to be an inch longer than
the stock part? For clarity, I'm talking about the little rod-like shaft
that goes between the clutch disk and the differential. Could the stock
shaft be used if the bell housing was shorter front to back (not
considering possible strength differences)? Could the stock shaft be
heat treated to make it more resistant to shock and less likely to
break?
Would cryogenically treating the differential gears make them stronger
and less susceptible to wear?
