I have an old aftermarket AFB (Carter?), 600 cfm, on a 327 in my Crown Car.
I only rebuilt it (don't think there are tuning kits available for it). It
has a mechanical secondary. The only time I checked mileage was for a 220
mile highway trip, and it got over 17 mpg. Never checked it around town. Here
in Denver we have to pass an idle emissions test, and I was told to not try
and adjust the carb, as it was great on the emissions.
I bought an Edlebrock 1406 for my other Crown Car (with a 350 cu in engine),
but that car isn't running yet.

Same experience here. I get about 10 mpg, but it runs great. I've got the
tuning kit, but haven't installed it yet because I still have to pull the
drivetrain to replace the transmission.
