The fact that the "kits"  are no longer available......there are a lot of 
parts there!

Price Aluminum Valve covers  / custom made headers... lately?      The main 
part..the trans input / mainshaft  is getting harder to get...

Alternative  trans / diff  pieces are in the $3500-10,000.  range...

$2-4k

BUT  seeing how there are much better / easier  powertrain options 
now...$1500-2500.

A completed  driver  is always worth more than a pile of  project[s]   IMO
