That's wild!..but just goes to show  how much a few CENTS  made then...

In '71  I was making $3.15  per hr.  and living like a KING  in SoCal....

'63 Vette , Vair powered sandcar, 3 HD's,  VW  Beetle,3 houses, and a duplex! 
 Took  my 2 weeks vacation and when laid off...played for the 4 mths until 
they called me back...

But of course ...
23 yrs. old  and no kids...one girlfriend who WORKED....which was the 
difference between me and my Buds....
