Kent:
Thanks for this information. I am preparing an order to Clarks and I will add C4981 to my list. Maybe someone will come forward with a picture of their rear mounted convertible speaker. I have never seen any pictures of one printed in any previous Corvair books or publications.

Mine are mounted incorrectly, as I found out later, so it’s not a good car to look at. Do you have the accessory installation reference manual for 1966? That has the best-available drawings for locating. I don’t think Clark’s carries the entire repro book (I helped get it made from an original book owned by Mark Corbin) but they do have a packet containing what you need as C4981. If you want to buy the whole book, I will locate a retailer that carries it. The guy who prints them does not do retail sales, to my knowledge.
The original ‘66 book is a very, very, very rare item. When I approached the printer about reproing it, he thought I was pulling his leg, because he had never seen one in 30+ years of reproducing Chevy car books. Mark found it at a swap meet many years ago. It is loose-leaf whereas the prior years were perfect-bound. The repro is also perfect-bound. As far as we know, 1966 was the final year of this book, which makes sense since the way dealer options were packaged and sold changed pretty dramatically for 1967, with the introduction of the Camaro.

Kent:
Thanks for the heads up. I will watch for it in the mail this week. By the way, were you able to get me a
photo of one of your rear speaker boxes? I am interested in how it is mounted. Thanks .

Hi Tom,
I did write up some things that became their four-page flier. My, was that ever a long, long time ago. I don’t know if I have my original notes any more. I don’t know if something has gotten tangled up in the translation, but my memory is that the ’65 convertible box is a different shape and overall bulkier than the ’66 and later box, which was quite slim.
Let me know if there is more digging that I need to do.

We believe that most of this was documented from Kent Sullivan quite a few years ago and we have not found the paperwork to back that up right now, sorry.

Cal:
How did you document the production of your C10082 1965 convertible box and your C10638 1966 convertible box? Mark said the one on the right ( the smaller one) matches exactly his 1967 original convertible speaker box. This has me tend to believe your C10638 may be the 1965 box and your C10082 may be the 1966 box since it matches the 1967 box, and may have been a GM production carry over from 1966 to 1967.

The one on the right matches our 65 box as c10082.

I wish to install a rear speaker in my 1966 Corsa convertible at a future date. Initially, I purchased a used late model Corvair rear speaker enclosure off ebay. The seller did say it was removed from a late model Corvair. I then purchased Clark's C10638 1966 reproduction enclosure unit. There is a definite difference in these two units. Please see the attached photos. The Clark's 1966 unit is on the left and the ebay unit is on the right. Can anyone confirm which one is correct for the 1966 model year? Cal, I see you also have a 1965 rear speaker box (exact repro) listed under part number C10082. Is it possible 1965 was a different style from 1966? Does anyone have the original 1966 optional rear convertible speaker unit on their vehicle? All comments are appreciated.
