I believe the correct finish is similar to the black stripes in 64
headlight bezels. For these, after removing whatever is already there, and
carefully masking and then trimming the tape with an exacto knife, spraying
several coats of (rattle can) PlastiKote Classic Flat Black Lacquer #344 has
always works exceptionally well for me.

After drying, it is not really "flat"; rather, it has a slight luster,
extremely close to the "Tuxedo" called out for the painted interior surfaces
of my 64 Spyder. This product sticks well to brushed aluminum (been on my
64, without peeling, since 1994). #344 also closely matches the General's
finish of engine shrouds; because it is a Lacquer product (a distillate much
higher than gasoline or motor oil)--though not as durable as powder
coat--#344 holds up well in the engine compartment.

Hi,
I have a question on my '62 and don't know to ask for a correct answer. I
have been getting different answers from everyone I ask. I'm repainting
the
front grille pieces and would like to know if the finish is flat,
semi-gloss
or gloss? Can you or someone you know let me know which is correct. I
really would appreciate your help. Sorry if you did receive this message
several times I had error messages everytime I tried to send. Thank you

The NOS inventory that I have is more of a flat black than anything else.
Problem is that if you were to get wax on it, this would make it a semi
gloss. Unwaxed, it will dull to a flat black again. Hope that this helps.
Moving the paint question a little further on the 1962, is what is the
correct black for between the ribs on the rocker panel molding. I had NOS
ones that had black gloss, flat black, semi gloss black, and even some
that
were not painted at all!!
