    <p>I recall a row of solenoids on top of the transmission to move
      the shifting forks.</p>
    <p>Ah Ha! here is a picture. It seems the vacuum servo did the
      actual moving of the forks.</p>

      One power glide piece not mentioned.  The FC auto and the 140 auto
      had a govenor/bell crank , the piece on the side.  That was
      designed to let the unit wind out more rpm before shifting with
      the same vacuum.   That and the cooler on the FC. I think the
      Ultravan also had the cooler.  I have a parts 64 with that shift. 
      Might have one other.   But Mable's set up can not be much crazier
      than the electric/vacuum unit used on the Cords in the mid
      thirties and later on thevTucker.   The Select Shift.

                sort out the current shifter and clutch situation, so
                that Mabel is able to be driven, and then explore more
                about the PG in the future.  This weekend Bob came over
                and bled the clutch- it's a little better but still an
                engineering disaster.  Looks like an old truck clutch
                pedal adapted to fit in the ultra van.  It barely
                engages and to do so, you really have to stomp down on
                it, as the plywood floor shifts.  And that is a
                undesirable thing to have to do, as the ultra van is
                challenging enough to maneuver without that added
                stress.  </div>
