[FC] Replacing rubber line over fuel tank with steel line

You may remember that earlier in the summer I was experiencing vapor lock problems. I wanted to replace the rubber line the runs between the fuel sender/pickup and the metal line under the van, but access was too tight to get it without dropping the tank. I have the tank out now and I'm thinking about doing something differently. I'd like to replace the rubber line with a steel line. This way the rubber connection will be short and easy to replace at the right rear of the tank. It will also be a good connection point for an electric pump in the future if I need to go that way. The steel line will run down the side of the tank where the tank half meets at the flange. I don't think there is enough length on the end of the sender for me to flare and attach a new steel line. I think I'll have to use a compression fitting instead.
Has anyone else ever done this before? Is there something that I'm not thinking of that makes this a bad idea?
Thanks!
Andrew
