spa cover is thick foam , sized to match spa models . costing from $130 up.
i have a small spa for my back and arthritis issues for many years now ,
and outside units (mine is inside!) go thru covers in about 3 - 5 if lucky
years. the ridged foam is very thick , about 5 inches or more on some models.
my older truck bed cover was a homebrew 2X6 frame , hinged at halfway
point , and about 24 inches from rear. the front lid could open up and lay
there so you could put higher stuff ( i trucked gas in 3 50 gallon drums for
my boat back there) , file cabinets etc back there. i used one hot rod
hood pin and its stainless round hole trim to latch it down. the rear did not
need a latch. i had cheap brown felt glued to the bottom of the frame. it
bolted to the top edge of the truck bed with 2 5/16 lag bolts (yup , had to
drill 2 holes).
this system works well , held up well , but yardage of good marine canvass
made to fit on the fram with snaps installed costs about $200 . lasts about
3-5 years with my type of miles and speeds. first one just had a few bows
under the canvass, it wore at those staves. second one had pockets sewn in
the canvas to hold it to the bows. the bows are in standard marine hardware
cast pockets , on the frame , NOT the truck body. you buy this type stuff
at a marina or from marine catalogs available online (west marine , boat us
, etc)
they also have many neat ideas for tables, mounts ,various interior lights
, cup holders , and many other goodies for vans . my next bed cover may
be made from parts of damaged modern ones from used auto parts yards...i
already have one on the crampside , that looks like it will work .
dream on guys , that's the fun of it! please look at web
pictures that help explain it better.

You could try a place that sells spa or hot tub covers. They have a rigid
foam core, are made to order and you can put the fold where you want.
