Personally, I am just curious to see Eddie's project. Seems like in the last year he has been looking to buy every component of the van. Almost like he started with a nice "Corvair 95" door emblem and is building a truck around it! :)
No offense intended to Eddie at at all - I applaud anyone who saves an old Corvair from the crusher or the elements. And I understand the urge to fix or upgrade anything while it's apart or when access is easier during a full or partial restoration.
Also interesting how singular parts can fetch seemingly high prices when complete vehicles go for cheap. Case in point - I have a nice solid 65 Greenbrier with deluxe interior, 4 speed, no rust (spent most of its life in California then a dry barn in Alabama). Hasn't run since the 80s. Cheapo white paint job that could be presentable if clean. I will never restore it. But for the sake of the hobby and the van itself, I don't want to do the easy thing of taking it down the road to the scrapyard and getting $375 for it. I haven't even bothered to advertise it because I know its tough getting more than scrap value for a non-runner. Maybe somebody needs a solid core to build (?) Much cheaper and easier starting with a solid truck than fixing and patching a rust bucket! Located in 36870 zipcode - 125 miles southwest of Atlanta. I could deliver for fuel money. Asking price is less than a grand, but more than scrap.... "negotiable"
