Answer:  Cost, and sales.

The Corvan and Greenbrier cost more to build than the Chevy Vans that 
replaced them, and the Corvan and Greenbrier were selling in lower 
numbers than the Ford Econoline.

I agree with all your statements about the superior design of the 
Corvair 95s vehicles, however.
