i run 2 batteries at times in the rampy , thru a marine diode isolator with
@100 amp alternator. i have a marine refrigerator / freezer running off
battery number 2. we sometimes take it on trips. works out very well. battery
lasts all night ok in motel parking lot.
as a side note , i parted out a greenbrier a few years back that had a
matching battery box on the right side. it looked factory! whoever did it was
clever? i still have what i could cut and save, hoping to install it in the
rampy someday. i posted pictures when i found this unit. NAPA has the
isolators , or you could buy 2heavy diodes and mount them on a good size heat
sink insulated from mounting. i would use 2 diodes , feed each battery thru
it's own diode from the alternator , taking power from each for separate
circuits.just like bigger boats.
the extra battery can be maintained , or go dead and you still have your
main ready to start you up .
another way would be to use a heavy constant duty relay. it brings both
batteries together only when running or charging. this is used on some fire
trucks and ambulances etc etc.
